Interesting Patch Changes 4.0.3

Reading through the 4.0.3 patch notes, I thought I'd comment on a few:

When in a Looking For Dungeon group, using an instance portal to that instance will now take players to the Looking For Dungeon entrance point instead of the normal destination of that portal. This will make it easier to return to the instance after dying in an LFD group.
This I see as ideal for two instances. One, anything in the Hellfire Citadel, and second Gundrak. Too many times running from the graveyard, to find myself going in (or towards) the wrong portal. Now if this works the way I hope, I can simply hop into the first portal I see. No longer running all the way across and back for the specific one.
The default UI Scale has been altered so it will be set at a 1:1 pixel/texel ratio. This will result in a smaller UI appearance for higher resolution monitors.
Using Bartender4, I run some of my buttons at 60% of normal because those default buttons seemed HUGE. This might be a nice fix for those display concerns.

Repeatedly inspecting other players should now function correctly.
Does this mean the GearScore addon might work again? One can hope. I hate over threating my tank, because he's in LOUSY gear.

Here's to waiting for A, of the 4.0.3a patch..

  1. GS mod does NOT need to work. Blizzard has included their own system in game now. Check your character screen.

Instead of using an arbitrary number pulled out of someones butt, it gives a number based on the average gear set. So if the top gear in game is 270 and the score is 270, then you know they are decked out in all 270 gear.

Using this type of system which uses numbers related to in game makes is smart. Using GS mod that uses a number made up with a young kids idea of ubberness is not good.

  2. The instance entrance changes are actually especially nice for lowbie instances. Specifically an instance like Maraudon. If you die when you're doing the "Pristine Waters" entrance, there are several issues. First of all Pristine Waters doesn't even have a regular entrance. Secondly most people can't even find the other entrances. Any instance that has several entrances that benefit greatly from this, like Dire Maul and Scarlet Monastery, and Gundrak as you mention.
@Manorton - If the built in GS works like you describe it, it works exactly like GS. So it's flawed in the same way, by not taking gems, enchants and using the right stats into account. GS isn't an arbitrary value, it's based on average ilevel and seems Blizz copied it straight off.

  3. Yes, I found out last night doing the elemental bosses last night the fail of GS. I was getting a dozen popups each time I clicked on a person to heal them.. AAAAGGHH...

  4. @Zinn GS, the MOD, Does use an arbitrary number scale. As a matter of fact one can change the scale in the settings. One server can have a baseline of lets say 5000 where another 4000. Both being the same gear but a change in the settings and scale. THAT is arbitrary.

Bad raid leaders will always lean on a crutch to measure a raid. When the raid fails they never seem to want to admit that its the fact that a player with an above average GS is part of the problem. Skill is always greater than gear score. But I am beating a dead horse and speaking into the wind.
